HOGS

1. All pigs are Registred Berkshires. I am a member of the American Berkshire Assocation (ABA). For more information please see the ABA's website. ABA

2. All pigs are raised under a LOW input program. No unnecessary medications are used, if any at all. No growth hormones are used.

3. Hogs are raised using "Substainable Hog Production" practices, for more information, see the ATTRA's website. ATTRA

4. All hogs are kept on dirt for a more comfortable lifestyle (footing). Sows are put on concrete one week before having a liter (baby pigs) to four weeks after having the liter, for hygiene purposes.

5. Rohrbach Family Farms believes that we raise the best pork possible. We feed our family from the same system.

6. All corn (which is the primary feed stock) is raised on the farm or purchased from local farmers. Buying from Rohrbach Family Farms supports the local economy as much as possible.

7. For meat purposes our hogs are grown to an average of 300lbs live weight. The "Normal" average is 250lbs, this increase will produce an average of 220lbs instead of 184lbs of meat for a whole hog. This provides for larger portions of meat and more in the freezer. Please look at the PDF to get an idea of how a hog is cut into meat.
